The Fold at Hallin Bank - Lake District Holiday Accommodation for 2-5 people
The Fold has its own entrance from the lane outside Hallin Bank. In the entrance lobby there is good space for coats and boots. Opening off the lobby is the bathroom/laundry room, with shower over bath, toilet, washing machine and tumble-dryer, drying racks. There is also a separate toilet.
Up one step is the double bedroom (17’ long) with its own seating area and TV/DVD. At one end of the room the floor is raised: this area contains a 5’ double bed and can be curtained off. The floor level windows are a curiosity: they were once little doorways for sheep and pigs. The garden door opens on to a terrace with panoramic views over the valley and opportunity to observe the local wild life at close range.
The large loft bedroom is reached from the lobby by a steep open staircase. It has twin beds which can be zipped together to make a comfortable 6’ double bed. An extra folding bed is available and a travel cot.
Stone steps lead down from the lobby into the kitchen/living room (30’ long). Formerly the great barn, this is a double height space, with exposed roof beams and four spectacular windows. A four-oven electric Aga provides cooking facilities and heats the room. There is also a conventional electric cooker, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, dresser, farmhouse dining table, ample kitchen and dining equipment of every kind. At one end is a raised platform or “minstrels’ gallery” with good upright piano (Kawai). A sofa and other seating make this a family room where everyone can congregate.
Outside, you descend from the terrace through the garden and orchard into our field below the house, where there is private access to the beck and an island. This is a favourite destination for children. The fields above the house belong to us, too, and you can walk through them up to the open fellside. As with many Lakeland farmhouses, a public footpath runs past the buildings on the upper side but it is not intrusive.
